What exactly happens to a female's body during menstruation? Menstruation is when a female dischargers blood and other chemical substances/materials from the lining of the uterus during her menstrual cycle. Menstruation stops when the female is pregnant or until menopause. So what exactly is going on inside a female reproductive system during puberty? In order to understand what is going inside during menstruation, there is a need to explain what a menstrual cycle is. Menstrual cycle is known also a monthly cycle that has menstruation (more evident part of the cycle) and ovulation of the eggs and everything lasts for an average of 28 day. First, the eggs inside the ovary develop and then it travels through the fallopian tubes which takes about 14 days. Once the egg reaches the uterus, it lasts only 2~3 days until the most visible part of the process show. If the egg does not get fertilize then the lining of the uterus starts to shed and along with blood travels through the cervix and out the vagina. This process is what we call ‘period’ and it lasts for an average of 5 days. From looking through the process of menstruation it looks painful and from first hand experience it is. However, it is different for every female but in any way they would experience pain physically the only variation is the severeness of the pain.

Dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain especially on the abdominal region. 90% of female adolescents experience dysmenorrhea and it happens during menstruation because periods increases the amount of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are hormones that cuses unterine muscles to contract which, is the pain that females feel. The reason as to why young female adolescents avoid exercise is because of dysmenorrhea. Along with dysmenorrhea, adolescents experience severe tiredness and sluggishness, depression, and they lose the capability to concentrate. Therefore, female adolescents have no will to do exercise because of the symptoms they receive and most female think that exercise won’t help because it will only make you even tired. However, there are ways in which dysmenorrhea pain can be relieved.
